The Audreys - Taasha's fallen angel voice, brothers Tristan and Cam on banjos and guitars, Mikey G on the violin and mandolin, songs that swing from the foot-stomping to the beguiling and one big yellow kombi. Whether as a four piece, or as a six piece when joined by Lyndon Gray on double bass and Rob Eyers on drums, you sure don't want to miss their roots 'n all splendor. Yee-ha!
The Audreys began life in Melbourne , growing out of Taasha, Tristan & Cam's acoustic gigs at pubs and cafes around town. Then in 2003, Taasha & Tristan were asked to write and perform the music for "The House of Names", a short film starring Kim Gyngell and Samuel Johnson. The film was a great success, making it's debut at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Writing for the film inspired them to focus on their songwriting. Their wandering souls then lead them back to their home town of Adelaide , where they got Mikey G on board for the ride. This is when The Audreys really started to take shape.
Things quickly began to take off as the band made a name for themselves with their great live shows. Showcase spots at the FUSE Festival and the National Folk Convention resulted in an invitation to play WOMADelaide, the country's largest world music event, in 2005. The band's regular shows, festivals appearances and strong support from press and radio enabled them to appear on stage with great musicians such as Hirst & Greene, Lisa Miller and international acts such as Kieran Kane & Kevin Welch, Brooke Fraser and Madviolet. Taasha and Tristan also found time to write the music for a second short film, "Two Minutes To Midnight".
"You and Steve McQueen", a Limited Edition and mostly live EP, was launched at WOMADelaide early in 2005, and in June The Audreys spent a month in Melbourne recording their debut album at Yikesville with Shane O'Mara (Tim Rogers, Lisa Miller, Stephen Cummings) in the producer's chair. The album, titled "Between Last Night and Us", is due for release in February 2006 on ABC Roots Music/Warner Music Australia.
The Audreys will be on the road this summer, performing at A Day on the Green, Woodford Folk Festival, Red Hill Harvest Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, The Famous Spiegeltent, The Basement, Brunswick Music Festival, Yackandandah Folk Festival and much more.
