Unfortunately, company policy does not allow us to accept or consider creative ideas, suggestions, or materials other than those that we have specifically requested. We hope you will understand that it is the intent of this policy to avoid the possibility of future misunderstandings when projects developed by our professional staff might seem to others to be similar to their own creative work.
Please do not send us any other unsolicited original creative materials such as songs, recordings, lyrics, original artwork, or any other creative materials.
It depends on a lot of things including the piece of music itself and how much of it you want to use, as well as what you want to use it for. (And for how long, and where in the world it will be appearing plus some other questions we'll need to ask you as well.) So if you would like a quote, contact us with as many specifics as you can and then we can give you the information that applies for that music and that particular use.
We can issue you a license that allows you to use the composition under the terms we all agree to, but that doesn't give you permission to use the sound recording of that piece of music. Recorded music contains two distinct copyrights - one is the composition and the other is the performance in the recording. In some instances, where it's an ABC recording, we can certainly assist you in obtaining the license you need to use that recording.
The answer to that question is, no. These days not all music makes it into print form. This is because the demand for print works is only specific to certain types of music. Some of our key orchestral composers have scores available for hire (look in the Print section of our website for details) and some of our songwriters have had songs reproduced in print books for sale but it is by no means all songwriters and all composers.
Yes. We work with some of the leading screen composers available including established names and new faces. If you can tell us what kind of music you are thinking of, we can assist in helping you find the right composer for your production. Helping match your production to the right screen composer or putting you in touch with a screen composer we work with, does not cost you any money - we're happy to help.
Screen music is a specialised area of music and competitive. If you submit it to us (see FAQ on Demos) and we feel it has potential, we will get back to you. Be aware, though, that music filmmakers prefer to have their music created specifically for their film or television production. There may be some potential for your music to be made available for licensing but, again, it is a very competitive area.
No. And we also don't publish all the music that you hear on the ABC.
No. ABC Music Publishing is represented internationally via a network of other music publishers in each overseas territory.
We are a publishing company not a record label. However, if we think your song has potential and decide to represent it, we will certainly be looking to make that song as available and as successful as possible.
